What Is Cure Time?

Cure Time is the period an adhesive needs to reach its working strength after application. In windshield replacement, cure time applies to the polyurethane adhesive that bonds the glass to the vehicle frame. The vehicle may need to remain still during this period, based on the adhesive, temperature, humidity, and installation conditions.

Key Takeaways About Cure Time

  • Cure time applies to adhesive, not the glass itself.
  • Temperature and humidity can change how adhesive cures.
  • Cure time is different from the full service time.

How Cure Time Works

Cure time describes how long polyurethane adhesive needs to set after a windshield is placed. The adhesive changes from a wet material into a firm bond. Temperature, humidity, glass position, and the adhesive formula can affect that change.

The windshield can look properly placed before the bond has fully cured. During a replacement, the technician checks the adhesive instructions and the conditions around the vehicle. That information helps determine when the vehicle is ready for normal use.

How It Applies to Windshield Replacement

Cure time starts after the adhesive connects the windshield with the vehicle frame. The vehicle may need to stay in place while the bond gains strength. Cure time does not describe cleaning, glass removal, trim fitting, or other parts of the replacement.

From the WindshieldRepairKirklandwa.com team

When we install a windshield, we check the adhesive instructions and the conditions around the vehicle. We also inspect the bond area before releasing the vehicle, because proper placement and curing work together. Our team treats cure time as part of the installation process, not as a separate repair.
